RUN FOR HUMANITY
Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) North Rift Region with its seven county branches: Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana, held its first half marathon dubbed “Run for Humanity” on the 19th March 2017 in Eldoret town.
The main purpose of the race was to raise funds to support KRCS activities in the region.
The event attracted the participation of more than 146 persons of whom 111 were professional athletes.
Esther Chesang emerged first in the 21kms women category while Isaac Kipkoech took position 1 in Men’s category.
The event was graced by the KRCS governor Dr. Mohamud Said, Eliud Kipchoge –Rio Marathon Champion and goodwill ambassador for the race, county government officials and Athletics Kenya Uasin Gishu (UG) county branch.
“The presence of Kenya Red Cross Society at the regional offices, county branches and sub- county branches provides a greater opportunity to influence local actors into action in strengthening humanitarian assistance systems and structures.” Said Dr. Mohamud.
Dr. Mohamud emphasized the importance of such initiatives geared towards fundraising and sustainability or activities at the grassroots level.
