World Red Cross & Red Crescent Day 2024

World Red Cross & Red Crescent Day 2024

May 8, 2024
00:00 - 23:00
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated on May 8th each year to honor the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and to recognize the contributions of its volunteers and staff worldwide. It also commemorates the birthday of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement. The day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the humanitarian work carried out by the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, and to promote their mission of alleviating human suffering, protecting life and health, and upholding human dignity, particularly in times of conflict and disaster.
This year’s theme is “I give with joy, and the joy I give is a reward.”  This theme promotes the idea of giving with a sense of joy and recognizing that the joy experienced in the act of giving itself is a rewarding outcome.
The theme allows us to reflect on the milestones we as Kenya Red Cross have achieved in last year’s El-Nino rains, the current MAM rains, and the continuous routine activities we have been conducting. It is amazing the joy we continue to emanate as we serve humanity wholeheartedly without being coerced.
We continue to give a big shout-out to all our staff and volunteers for their dedication every day.
