Good Deeds Day “doing Good”
The Kenya Red Cross Society participated more actively than before in the 2018 Good Deeds Day that was commemorated on 15th April 2018 at City Hall way. Good deeds day is a global day that unites people globally to do good deeds for the benefit of others and the planet.
The Year’s Theme was “Doing Good.” Since 2007, millions of people from different communities, organizations and businesses join together every year to volunteer and do good. Volunteer Involving Organizations Society (VIOS) brought together several organizations, including, Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), Mentoring Africa, The Kesho Alliance, Abrassa Mentorship and Empowerment Network, Hope Worldwide Kenya, Nairobi County Government, Kenya Red Cross Society among others.
Speaking during the event, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi who was the Chief Guest thanked all the participating organizations and individuals for coming together to do good, adding that it was a great initiative.
“I am very grateful for all of you present today, and I urge you to join hands in doing good deeds to transform our city Nairobi,” Governor Mbuvi added
Kenya Red Cross conducted free screening on body mass, blood pressure and blood sugar checkup, and also gave nutritional talk to members of the public. The over eighty KRCS volunteers also participated in a walk around Nairobi town and distributed clothes to street families and other members of the public.
“We are very grateful for the large turn-up of volunteers to do good and grace the occasion. I urge volunteers to keep doing good and continue giving back to the society,” Shadrack Musyoka, KRCS National Youth and Volunteerism Manager said.
“Every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little further into the dark and Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
KRCS also gave donations to Mama Africa Centre, Slum Child Foundation, Global Hope Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, The Kenya Scouts, and Kenya Girl Guide Association.
